Overview:
The Causeway Islands provide easily accessible fishing from shore, bridges, or boat. Anglers can target species in both shallow grass flats and deeper channels adjacent to bridge pilings.
Target Species:
- Snook
- Redfish
- Mangrove Snapper
- Pompano
- Seatrout
- Flounder
- Jack Crevalle
- Sharks (Blacktip, Bonnethead)
Seasonal Highlights:
- Spring and summer offer strong Snook and Pompano action.
- Fall brings increased Redfish activity.
- Winter months are ideal for Flounder, Snapper, and Sheepshead around the bridge.
Tactics:
- Fish bridge structure and island drop-offs during tidal flow.
- Drift shrimp under a float across grass flats for Seatrout.
- Target deeper pockets near the bridge for sharks using cut bait.
Effective Baits and Lures:
- Live: Shrimp, Pinfish, greenbacks
- Cut: Mullet, squid, Ladyfish
- Artificial: Spoons, soft plastics, popping cork rigs
Additional Tips:
Pelican activity often signals baitfish presence. Sharks are commonly caught near dusk and in early morning hours near deeper channels.
